Hey, look up
To these empty words,
To this unbothered silence,
To this hopeless slumber
That sleeps like a child,
Unaware of loss, unfeeling love.
Nothing to gain, nothing to lose—
Look up and see perfection above.
The stars shine bright,
A king on his throne,
Watching us burn just enough
To endure and burn more.
This is not the taste of his wrath,
But a trial we’re meant to face.
Look up,
See dragons soaring past heaven’s gate,
As comets streak and roar,
Like fire when rockets ignite.
Words left unspoken,
Pressure unfelt,
A hero unwell,
The end of belief,
When all you can do is believe,
And give all you have to give.
Look up when the fire burns within,
Look up and declare:
It’s hard to show you care
When you only watch from afar.
Our minds are too small to act
When all we have is what we’re given,
We pray, impatient to endure,
Too unloving to receive, too demanding to serve,
Too broken to give, too hopeless to love,
Too unkind to write, too unforgiving.
Like the sky that lets the weather turn,
Snowing from cold drops,
Like a love frozen in a cold world,
A lie too sweetly coated,
A spoiled child angry at growing old.
Better to rest in peace than live in agony,
With broken limbs left unfixed.
But who am I to mourn for others?
I am neither king, duke, nor pope,
Not a tsar, but just a man with scars,
Hungry, angry, and sorrowful,
Dreaming of death’s release.
Let mourners grieve beneath the morning sun,
Clowns in crowns, like fish in seas,
And earth consuming humans like planted seeds.
At life’s dawn, no sun awaits to rise again.
That’s when you look up.
If you do, you’ll see stars smiling,
A night sky full of glory,
The moonlight not far.
The truth is sacred and holly
Emotions can run dry where there are no tears but cries,
A villain can change course and choose peace before the hero turned eye,
Love can be deep like a sea or shallow to keep like a puddle,
Time can go fast or slow, don’t be scared when you look up
You will see this all is a show
Become a like a river that flows Overcoming all life’s obstacles.
